ABINGTON, PA. – Head Baseball Coach
Josh Copskey has announced that he will be stepping down after four years with the Nittany Lions. The Penn State Abington Athletic Department wishes Josh well on his future endeavors.
Â
"It has been a pleasure working with the athletic department and the Penn State Abington Community these past four years. One of my many highlights of working at Penn State Abington have been the relationships developed with faculty, staff, and the student athletes.
Â
I want to thank the Penn State Abington community for accepting me into their family and entrusting me with the baseball program. The success on the field and in the classroom falls completely on the shoulders of the many great young men that I had the opportunity of coaching. I wish nothing but future success for the baseball program moving forward. WE ARE!"
Â
Over the past four seasons, Josh has earned 74 wins which includes a season cut off by COVID-19.
In his first season at the helm, Josh set a program record of 25 wins and took the Nittany Lions to a deep run in the NEAC Tournament. During his inaugural season, Josh picked up his first marquee win against No.1/6 Rowan University, shocking the profs in an exciting 10-7 win. Josh helped develop
Stevie Stevenson and
Ryan McCarty into future stars with Stevenson earning First Team All- NEAC, and
Ryan McCarty earning All-Conference, All-Region and making the D3baseball.com All-American team and Rookie of the Year.
Â
The next season the Nittany Lions would go on to win the programs first Conference Championship and their first birth in the NCAA Tournament. During that season the Nittany Lions scored four members on the NEAC All-Conference teams with sophomore
Ryan McCarty earning pitcher of the year.
Â
In the 2021 season, the Nittany Lions made a name for themselves again on the national stage upsetting No. 11 Rowan University again in a dramatic 9-8 walk off win.  The success under Copskey pushed them to a No. 1 ranking in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region, the first in program history. Abington also earned votes in the national rankings sitting just outside the top 25 teams in the country. For his outstanding season Josh was recognized as the NEAC Coach of the Year and six players earned All-Conference honors. Stevenson and McCarty would go on again to earn All-Region for the Nittany Lions.
