Abington Takes Care of Wildcats on Senior Day

Box Score Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team closed out its home schedule with a 7-2 victory over visiting Penn College in United East Conference (UEC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Abington Tennis Courts on Senior Day. Prior to the match, the Nittany Lions recognized senior Philip Belotserkovsky competing in his final home match of his career.

How It Happened
 
* Abington went up 2-1 in the match after doubles play.  The team of Belotserkovsky and freshman Kyle Elliott picked up the victory for the Nittany Lions at second doubles by the score of 8-1 over the Wildcats' Tommy Cavanagh/Jesse Kight.  Abington received the point at third doubles by default.
 
* Penn College earned the point at first doubles with Tucker Phillippe-Johansson and Paul Langbein winning the match, 8-4.
 
* Belotserkovsky finished the day a perfect 2-0 after winning his third singles match up against Kight.  He won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
 
* Freshman Andrew Brown picked up the win at second singles as he defeated Langbein in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
 
* Elliott was also victorious in his singles match for the Nittany Lions.  He defeated Cavanagh in straight sets, 6-3 and a shutout win in the second set at 6-0.
 
* Penn College took first singles for its lone point in singles play.  Phillippe-Johansson won over Adrian Condes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
 
* Abington received points at fifth and sixth singles by default.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the ninth meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014-15 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 7-2 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Postseason Picture
Abington is currently in third place in the United East standings at 2-2.  The Nittany Lions could put themselves in good shape to clinch a postseason berth with a win at St. Mary's College in the regular season finale.  Abington has qualified for the postseason eight straight years (2013-2021) with the exception to the 2020 season when the conference championship was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Saturday, April 23 as the Nittany Lions wrap up the regular season on the road against St. Mary's.  Match time is set for 12 p.m.
