Abington Finishes 3rd at United East Preview

Huntingdon Valley, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's golf team finished third overall at the United East Preview hosted by the Nittany Lions at the Philmont Country Club. Abington will be serving as host of the United East Championship in April. The Nittany Lions registered a team score of 340.

Abington had three golfers finished in the top-10 with senior Leonard Gipson leading the way with a low score of 82 on the par-70 course to finish sixth overall. Sophomore Bern Popky finished tied for seventh after carding a score of 83. Fellow sophomore Jake Gregory totaled an 84 to finish ninth overall.

Sophomore John Donahue also factored in, in the scoring, as he recorded a round score of 91 to finished tied for 29^th.

Senior Chris Taylor also finished for the Nittany Lions as he recorded a 98 (35^th).

Next Up
Abington returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 12 as the Nittany Lions compete in the Turtle Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Arcadia University at the Turtle Creek Golf Club in Limerick, Pa.

Preview Notes

* Penn College finished first overall as a team as the Wildcats recorded a team score of 327. Peyton Mussina earned medalist honors as he recorded a low score of 75.

* Penn State Harrisburg edged out Abington by one stroke to finish second with a score of 339.

* The 2024 United East Championship is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 with day one action and will conclude on Sunday, April 28 with the presentation of the conference championship trophy.
