Volleyball Sweeps United East Weekly Honors

Latham, N.Y. - The Penn State Abington women's volleyball team made it a clean sweep of the United East Conference (UEC) Weekly Honors as freshmen McKinley Grimm and Fabiola Medina were both recognized for their respective performances for the week ending Oct. 6. Grimm was selected the United East Offensive Player of the Week, while Medina was tabbed the conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Abington went 3-0 this past week, including a pair of wins against conference opponents.  The Nittany Lions started the week with a 3-0 victory against Marywood University and then opened United East play with a 3-0 triumph versus Penn State Brandywine.  The team capped the week with a thrilling come-from-behind victory at Notre Dame of Maryland University.  The Nittany Lions trailed, 2-0, in the match and rallied to defeat the Gators, 3-2.  As a result, Abington increased its winning streak to nine straight matches; the longest in the team's Division III era.

Grimm is earning weekly honors for the second time this season.  She averaged 8.55 assists per set in the team's three victories to go along with 3.91 digs on the defensive side.  Grimm highlighted the week with 38 assists; one shy of her season-high in the victory at Notre Dame.  Grimm also recorded a season-high 27 digs against the Gators.  Earlier in the week, she totaled 31 assists and eight digs against Marywood and finished with 25 assists and eight digs against Brandywine.

Medina is averaging 4.72 digs per set and has totaled 46 aces in 17 matches this season.  She's ranked sixth in the United East in both categories.
