Abington Third After Day One of United East Championship

DAY 1 RESULTS

Huntingdon Valley, Pa. –
The Penn State Abington men's golf team sits in third place after the completion of day one of the United East Conference (UEC) Championship held on Saturday at the Philmont Country Club.  The Nittany Lions finished the day with a team score of 327 (+47).
 
How It Happened
 
* Senior Leonard Gipson and sophomore Jake Gregory each carded a team-low score of 80 through the first 18 holes.  Gipson parred eight holes on the day, while Gregory parred eight holes and birdied the 16th hole.
 
* Senior Michael Festa parred 10 of the 18 holes, including five straight holes on the front end. He finished round one with an 82.
 
* Sophomore Bern Popky finished the first round with an 85 to factor in the team scoring. 
 
* Sophomore John Donahue concluded the day with an 91.
 
Tournament Notes
 
* Penn College will start day two with a seven-stroke lead over Penn State Harrisburg.  The Wildcats finished round one with a team-low score of 304 (+24), while Harrisburg carded a team score of 311 (+31).
 
* Penn College's Peyton Mussina leads the field of 45 golfers with an even round score of 70 on the par-70 course. 
 
Next Up
The United East Championship will conclude on Sunday as play resumes with round two starting at 12 p.m.
