Abington Finishes Fifth at United East Championships

RESULTS

Huntingdon Valley, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's golf team finished fifth overall at the United East Championships as the two-day tournament concluded on Sunday at the Philmont Country Club. The Nittany Lions served as host of this year's championship.

How It Happened

* Abington finished the championship with a two-day score of 663 (327-336).

* Senior Michael Festa led the Nittany Lions with a team-low score on day two as he carded an 80 on the par-70 course. Festa finished the round with six pars and two birdies. He totaled a 162 between the two days (82-80) to finish tied for 12^th overall.

* Senior Leonard Gipson parred nine holes and birdied hole 18 to finish with an 85. He finished tied for 16^th with a two-day total of 165 (80-85).

* Sophomore Jake Gregory finished 18^th overall as he recorded a two-day total of 166 (80-86). He finished day two with an 86 as he parred eight holes and birdied hole 16.

* Sophomore Bern Popky finished the two-day tournament with a 170 (t-24^th) as he carded an 85 on both days. Popky parred six holes on the afternoon.

* Sophomore John Donahue (91-88—179) improved on his day one score by three strokes as he finished with an 88 on the day. He parred three holes on the backend.

Championship Notes

* Penn College repeated as United East Championships as the Wildcats finished the two-day tournament with a score of 624 (304-320). Peyton Mussina earned medalist honors after recording an individual low score of 149 (70-79).

* Penn State Harrisburg was the championship runner-up after recording a two-day team score of 633 (311-322).
