Five Earn All-United East Honors

Latham, N.Y. – Five members of the Penn State Abington baseball team were named All-United East (UEC) in the Volt Division when the conference office announced this year's all-conference and major award honorees earlier this week.  Senior Sean Doherty and junior Jake Fallers highlighted the list with first team recognition, while seniors Shane Fillman and Montana Milward along with freshman Ethan Hahn were named to the second team.

Dougherty is earning All-United East honors for the second straight season and is receiving first team accolades for the first time after being named to the second team a year ago.  The two-time All-United East selection led the team in batting with a .342 average as he totaled a team-high 51 hits, 11 doubles and three triples.  He also led the team with 35 runs while driving in 25.

During the course of the season, Doherty boasted a 17-game hitting streak from March 11 – April 14.  During that span he batted 31-for-70 (.442) while scoring 16 runs.

Dougherty recorded 50-plus hits for the third straight season as he finished his career third all-time with 197 hits.  He also wrapped up his career tied for fourth all-time with 41 doubles and second all-time with 167 runs.

Fallers had a stellar first season with the Nittany Lions as he batted .330 to go along with 38 hits, seven doubles, one triple, two homes runs, 28 runs and 15 RBI.  Fallers led the team with a .484 on-base percentage as he drew a team-high 26 walks and reached base 10 times after being hit by a pitch.

Fallers finished the season on a seven-game hitting streak in which he batted 10-for-24 (.416) while scoring six times.  Defensively, Fallers committed just three errors behind the plate for a .987 fielding percentage and threw out 11 runners attempting to steal during the course of the season.

Fillman put together an impressive first season with the Nittany Lions as he batted .324, including 48 hits with eight doubles and seven home runs.  He also scored 29 times and tied for the team lead in RBI with 37.

Fillman had 13 multi-hit games during the year, including a season-high four hits on three occasions.  The Whitehall native closed out the regular season going 8-for-13 during a three-game stretch as he drove in 12 runs and connected on four home runs.  He highlighted that week with a 4-for-5 performance in game one of a non-conference doubleheader at Lancaster Bible College.  In that game, Fillman hit four home runs and recorded eight RBI. For his performance, he was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week for the week ending April 28.  Fillman was the first player in program history to be named the nation's top weekly hitter.

Milward is earning All-United East second team honors for the second straight season.  The two-time All-United East selection batted .313 in his final year with the Nittany Lions.  Milward set career-highs in hits (45), runs (25), home runs (10) and RBI (37).

Milward started the 2024 season hitting safely in eight straight games.  During that span he batted 12-for-33 (.363) to go along with three doubles and six RBI.  Milward hit a career-high 10 home runs, including four in his final five games.  He finished his career fifth all-time with 16 home runs. Back in March, Milward had a career day against the University of Valley Forge.  He finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a career-high seven RBI.

Milward wrapped up his career with a .306 batting average while totaling 91 hits, 50 runs, 20 doubles and 81 RBI.

Hahn led the Abington pitching staff with 47.2 innings of work during his rookie season that featured nine starts and 10 appearances.  Hahn finished the season with 38 strikeouts and had a team-low 4.91 earned run average.

Hahn earned his first collegiate victory in a 10-2 triumph at Penn College.  He pitched a season-high eight innings and held the Wildcats to a season-low one run on five hits.  Earlier in the year down in Florida, Hahn struck out a season-high eight batters.

Abington (13-26, 8-7 UEC) qualified for the postseason after finishing conference play with an 8-7 record.  The Nittany Lions earned the second seed out of the Volt Division.  Abington appeared in its 12th postseason overall and eighth straight.
