Five Earn All-United East Honors

Latham, N.Y. – Five members of the Penn State Abington baseball team earned All-United East Conference (UEC) honors as the conference announced this year's all-conference and major award winners earlier in the week.  Seniors Shane Fillman and Gaetan Grandelli were named to the All-United East second team, while seniors Jake Fallers and Josh McGee along with junior Cory DiMario were selected to the All-United East third team.
 
Fillman is earning All-United East second team honors for the second straight season.  The two-time All-United East selection finished the season batting .342 and posted career numbers in hits (55), doubles (12), runs (36) and stolen bases (13).  He also totaled five home runs and 35 RBI; two shy of his career-high. Defensively, Fillman had a career-low six errors and set a new career-high with a .956 fielding percentage. 
 
Fillman registered multiple hits in 19 games during the course of the season, including a career-high four hits on three separate occasions.  He also drove in a season-high four runs three times with the first being a 4-for-4 performance in the team's victory versus Lakeland at the RussMatt Baseball Invitational in Florida. 
 
Fillman finished his Abington career with a .346 batting average to go along with 104 hits, 20 doubles, 12 home runs, 65 runs and 73 RBI. 
 
Grandelli is earning All-United East honors in his first season with the Nittany Lions.  He started all 37 games and finished with a team-best .374 average to go along with 55 hits, including 10 doubles and three home runs. Grandelli also scored 42 runs and recorded 28 RBI.
 
Grandelli recorded a hit in 28-of-37 games, including a stretch that featured an 11-game hitting streak.  He registered four hits in a game three times, including a 4-for-5 performance in game one of a doubleheader versus Penn College that he also scored a season-high four runs.  In one of the team's final conference doubleheaders of the season, Grandelli went 7-for-12 with four runs and six RBI at Lancaster Bible College.  He drove in all six runs in game one setting a season-high and also connected on one of his three home runs on the year.
 
Fallers is earning All-United East honors for the second straight season after being recognized with first team accolades last year.  Fallers put together a career season in his final year with the Nittany Lions as he batted .336 to go along with nine doubles and 12 home runs; all career-highs. His 12 home runs are currently tied for the most in the United East this season. In addition, Fallers also set career-highs in runs (39), RBI (34), slugging percentage (.743), walks (28) and on-base percentage (.480). 
 
In the doubleheader at Lancaster Bible, Fallers had a career day as he finished the twinbill going 6-for-10 at the plate with six runs and seven RBI.  In the opener, Fallers connected on three home runs; one shy of the program's single game record.  He finished the doubleheader with four home runs.
 
For his performance against the Chargers, Fallers earned his second United East Player of the Week recognition of the season and also earned a spot on the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week.
 
In 70 career games, Fallers finished his Abington career with a .332 average to go along with 74 hits, 66 runs, 13 home runs and 48 RBI.
 
McGee is earning All-United East honors for the first time in his career after putting together a stellar senior season.  McGee batted a career-high .303 to go along with 44 hits, eight doubles, two home runs, 22 runs and 34 RBI; all career-highs.
 
In the month of April, McGee had a hit in 14-of-15 games and ended the month on a 10-game hitting streak.  He batted .428 in that span and had multiple hits in seven of those games, including tying his career-high with three hits against Mt. St. Vincent, Lancaster Bible and Saint Elizabeth University.  In the final regular season game at St. Mary's College (Md.), McGee drove in a career-high five runs.
 
In 64 career games with the Nittany Lions, McGee totaled 64 hits, 12 doubles, four home runs, 36 runs and 48 RBI.
 
In his first season at Abington, DiMario picked up All-United East honors after an impressive campaign.  He batted .358; second best on the team, to go along with 49 hits, 10 doubles, two home runs, 46 runs and 18 RBI.  He also finished tied with Fallers for the team lead in walks with 28. 
 
DiMario had a day to remember in game two of a doubleheader at Lancaster Bible.  He finished the game 5-for-7, including his first two home runs of the season.  DiMario recorded a season-high five RBI and scored a season-high four times in the game.
 
Abington (17-20, 9-7 UEC) qualified for the postseason for the 13th time and ninth straight after finishing 9-7 in conference play.  The Nittany Lions advanced to the Second Round of this year's United East championship.
