Medina Named United East Defensive Player of the Week

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington sophomore Fabiola Medina was named the United East Conference (UEC) Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 19 as announced by the conference office earlier in the week. This is the second weekly award for Medina this season and her third all-time.

Last week the Nittany Lions went 3-0 with shutout victories over Penn College, the University of Valley Forge and Baruch College.

Medina averaged 4.56 digs per set to go along with nine aces in the three matches. She highlighted the week with a season-high 24 digs and seven aces in the win against Baruch. Medina also totaled double-digit digs with 11 versus Penn College.

In 17 matches this season, Medina is averaging 3.31 digs per set and has totaled 26 aces.

Abington (13-7, 5-3 UEC) returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Brandywine in United East action. Match time is set for 12 p.m. Abington has already clinched a spot in the upcoming conference tournament and currently sits sixth in the standings ahead of Brandywine (4-3 UEC) by one game in the win column.
