Ortiz Earns Third United East Weekly Honor

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington freshman goalkeeper Hector Ortiz was named the United East Conference (UEC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season for the week ending Oct. 11 as announced by the conference office.

Ortiz helped Abington to another perfect 2-0-0 week against conference opponents.  The rookie goalkeeper opened the week with a pair of saves in a 7-1 victory over Penn State Berks before recording, at the time, his third shutout of the season with three saves in a 1-0 road victory against Penn State Harrisburg.  The win over Harrisburg marked the first since 2012 and the team's first victory in Middletown since 2011.

In 10 starts this season, Ortiz owns an impressive 0.56 goals against average to go along with a 6-1-2 record.  He has totaled 37 saves and has four shutouts.  His recent coming earlier this week in the team's 3-0 triumph at Notre Dame of Maryland University that secured a postseason berth in the United East tournament.

Abington (7-4-3, 6-0-0 UEC) returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 as the Nittany Lions host nationally ranked No. 22 Salisbury University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Field.
