Tymchenko Named United East Athlete of the Week

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington senior Mark Tymchenko was named the United East Conference (UEC) Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 22 as announced by the conference office earlier in the week.

Tymchenko helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 2-0 week with victories over Alvernia University (W, 5-2) and a win against Lancaster Bible College (W, 6-1) in the team's conference openering.

Against Alvernia, Tymchenko went 2-0 in his matches with a 6-4 victory at first doubles with teammate Daniel Trott and three-set triumph over the Redwolves Tory O'Malley at third singles. Tymchenko won the first set, 7-5, and then won the 10-point tie-break in the third set to win the match.

He capped the week on Senior Day with another first doubles victory with Trott as the duo cruised to a 6-1 victory against the Chargers. Tymchenko won his third sets singles match against Cameron Tripp in straight sets by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

In eight matches this season, Tymchenko is 4-3 at third singles, including 2-0 in conference play. He owns an identical record at first doubles when teamed up with Trott.

Abington (6-3, 2-0 UEC) returns to action on Saturday, March 28 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Penn State Harrisburg in a United East contest. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
