Abington Finishes 2nd at Home Invitational

RESULTS

Huntingdon Valley, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's golf team finished tied for second overall in the team's home meet, the Abington Spring Invitational, on Monday held at the Philmont Country Club and sponsored by 'kpslife (www.kpslife.com).
 
The Nittany Lions finished with a team score of 345 to finish tied for second with Elizabeth College.  Delaware Valley University edge both teams by three strokes to win the event with a team score of 342.  FDU-Florham finished fourth (346) and was followed by Penn State Brandywine (355) in fifth.
 
Brandywine's Matt Cavanaugh earned medalist honors as he finished with an individual low score of 77 (+7) on the par-70 course.
 
Team Highlights
 
* Sophomore Trevor Ridge recorded Abington's lowest score of the day after shooting an 82 (+12) to finish tied for third overall.  Ridge parred nine holes, including five on the front nine.
 
* Freshman Anthony Carson finished fifth overall as he totaled an 83 (+13) on the day.  He parred two holes on the front nine and birdied par-4 hole six. On the back nine, Carson birdied hole 12 (par-5) and hole 16 (par-4).
 
* Junior Matthew Kilner finished 11th overall after totaling an 86 (+16).  He parred hole three and ended the front nine with a birdie on hole eight (par-5).  Kilner had two pars on the final nine.
 
* Senior Bern Popky finished with a 94 (+24) and totaled two pars on the day, while fellow senior Nathan Sauder totaled a 95 (+25).  Sauder finished the day with three pars. 
 
* Sophomore Anthony Feliciani and freshman Chase Green competed as individuals.  Feliciani finished with a 91 (+21) and totaled five pars, including three on the back nine.  Green totaled a 101 (+31) as he parred four holes on the final nine holes.
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action on Friday, April 24 as the Nittany Lions compete in day one of the United East Championships hosted by Penn State Harrisburg at Highlands Golf Course.
