LATHAM, N.Y. - The United East has announced its Senior Scholar Athlete Award winners for the Spring season. This award recognizes a senior who truly represents the student-athlete model by performing in competition, in the classroom and around the community.  Senior Bern Popky was named this year's recipient of the United East Senior Scholar Athlete award for men's golf.  Popky is the first-ever student-athlete from Penn State Abington to receive the award in any sport.

Popky has distinguished himself as one of Abington's top student-athletes, combining academic excellence with consistent success on the golf course. An Economics and Business Administration major with a 3.89 GPA, Popky has excelled in the classroom while balancing the demands of collegiate athletics over three seasons of competition.

On the course, Popky has been a reliable contributor to the Nittany Lions program, posting a career scoring average of 84 and recording a career-best finish of tied for third. His dedication to both academics and athletics reflects the values of NCAA Division III, demonstrating a commitment to personal growth, competitive excellence, and academic achievement throughout his collegiate career.

"Bernard was a tremendous 3 year student-athlete for me at Penn State Abington.  He steadily improved his game and was also an excellent student! As Captain his Senior year, he helped lead the team on and off the course while earning MVP honors.  Bern will be greatly missed!" Chris Crail, Head Men's Golf Coach at Penn State Abington
