Caruso & Kaminski Set Records at Ursinus Springfest

Collegeville, Pa. – Penn State Abington freshmen Bobby Caruso and Mason Kaminski each broke a school record as the Nittany Lions competed at the annual Ursinus College Springfest on Saturday at Patterson Field. Caruso broke his own record in the javelin, while Kaminski set the standard in the 5,000-meters.
 
Meet Highlights
 
* Kaminski was the team's top-finisher as he finished fifth overall in the 5,000-meters.  He registered a time of 16:31.22 to set the new standard in the team's record book.  The previous top mark of 16:36.33 was set by Nicolas Nieves at the 2024 Coach Pollard Invitational.  Kaminski also took part in the 800-meters and finished with a personal-best time of 2:04.89.
 
* Caruso broke his own record of 113' 5" in the javelin throw (34.58m) that he set in his first collegiate meet at the Purple & Gold Open hosted by West Chester University. He improved on his distance with a mark of 114' 10" (35.01m).
 
* Freshman Anthony Long set new personal-bests in the 200-meters and 400-meters.  In the 200-meters, he finished in 26.97 seconds and then finished the 400-meters in 1:01.08.
 
* Freshman Justin Heintz set a new personal-best in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:57.18 as he improved on his time by over six seconds.
 
* Freshman Dan Kulb also set a new personal-best in the 800-meters as he finished in 2:36.73; nearly seven seconds faster than his previous best.
 
* Junior William Lotoza set season-best marks in the 200-meters (24.63) and the 400-meters (55.03).
 
* The 4x400 relay team of Kaminski, sophomore Joseph Thompson, Lotoza and Heintz recorded a season-best time of 3:49.80 in the event.
 
* In the shotput event, sophomore Eden Patterson set a new personal-best distance of 25' 4.75" (7.74m).  Patterson also competed in the discus for the first time this season and recorded a distance of 76' 10" (23.42m).
 
* Freshman Marc Metellus came through with a new personal-best in the discus as he recorded a distance of 75' 1" (22.89m).
 
Next Up
Abington returns to action this weekend as the Nittany Lions compete in the two-day Bill Butler Invitational hosted by West Chester University.
