Ortiz Named United East Defensive Player of the Week

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington freshman Hector Ortiz was named the United East Conference (UEC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 20 as announced by the conference office on Monday. This marks Ortiz's first-ever weekly honor.

Ortiz and the Nittany Lions went 1-0-1 versus non-conference opponents, including a 2-1 victory at Mount Aloysius College. Earlier in the week, Abington finished in a 0-0 draw with visiting Washington College.

Ortiz recorded his first career shutout against the Shoremen as he made four stops in net, including two late in the second half to preserve the shutout.

Ortiz capped the week with a two-save performance in the first half in the team's win at Mount Aloysius.

In three starts in net this season, Ortiz has a 0.80 goals against average and an .846 save percentage. He has totaled 11 saves thus far this year.

Abington (1-4-2, 0-0-0 UEC) returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 23 as the Nittany Lions travel to face Stockton University in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
