Box Score Abington, Pa. - The Penn State Abington men's basketball squad lost a hard-fought game earlier this afternoon against Salisbury University by a score of 84-67.
Mike Marvin and
Avery Barnes each had a huge game for the Nittany Lions, but the pressure of the Sea Gulls was unrelenting, as the visitors were able to pull away midway through the second half.

Penn State Abington opened with an all-sophomore lineup on the floor today, and it worked well in the early going. Through the first three minutes of play, the Nittany Lions were able to drive the ball and work inside, and at the 16:54 mark in the first half, Penn State Abington led 11-6. However, a jumper from senior Sea Gull Travon Vann cut the lead to just three points, and it was the largest lead the Nittany Lions would hold for the rest of the game. A layup from Trent Epps and a three-pointer by Tim Harwood gave the Sea Gulls a 13-11 lead.

At the 15:04 mark, sophomore
Darien Mitchell made an incredible and-1 play stand up, putting the Nittany Lions back in the lead briefly by one. Salisbury jumped back out ahead by as much as four points. The Nittany Lions were able to once again chase down the lead, and midway through the first half, it seemed that the lead changed hands with each possession.

Finally, at the 8:30 mark, another layup from Trent Epps put Salisbury back on top, and this time they would hold onto the lead for the rest of the game. The Sea Gulls went on a 25-10 run to close out the half, taking a 51-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.

As the second half opened, the Nittany Lions came out on fire, looking to trim their deficit. Sophomore
Mike Marvin was able to get six points in the opening five minutes, and along with another five from his teammates, the Nittany Lions were able to trim the deficit to 56-47. Unfortunately for Penn State Abington, it was the closest they would get to Salisbury for the rest of the game. By the time all was said and done, the Sea Gulls cruised to an 84-67 victory.

The Nittany Lions were led by sophomores
Mike Marvin and
Avery Barnes. Marvin finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Barnes nearly got a double-double as well, getting 18 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore
Max Alton was the only other player in double figures, tallying 10 points for the Blue and White. For the Sea Gulls, it was Travon Vann who carried the day, netting 25 points and 11 rebounds for the only double-double of the game. Senior Trent Epps scored 18 points for Salisbury, while juniors Tim Harwood and Troy King tallied 16 and 10 apiece.

The Nittany Lions continue their homestand next Wednesday, still in search of their first victory of the season. Penn State Abington will face off against York College of Pennsylvania at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to stay tuned in to abingtonsports.com for all your updates on Nittany Lions athletics.
