Box Score Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's basketball squad lost a 90-71 decision to nearby Penn State Brandywine earlier tonight. Sophomore
Max Alton led the Nittany Lions with 20 points on the evening.
Penn State Abington (2-6, 0-0 NEAC) actually jumped out to an early lead in the game, with a
Mike Marvin jumper putting the Nittany Lions up by 10 at the 14:27 mark. In fact, Abington held the lead as late as the 10:08 mark of the first half, when a three-pointer from Rasheed Wilkins put Penn State Brandywine up by a score of 25-23. With this first lead of the game, the visiting Nittany Lions put their foot on the gas pedal and never looked back.
At the 5:33 mark of the first half, Brandywine (6-4, 3-1 PSUAC) had jumped ahead by 11, off of a three-pointer from Patrick McGee. Two minutes later, Brandywine had extended their lead to 14, on a layup from Frank McCusker. With a final three-pointer on the last possession of the half from Brian Sarcinello, the Penn State Brandywine team headed into the lockers with a 56-37 lead.
The second half did not fare much better for Penn State Abington. Try as they might, they could never seem to make up any ground on their opponents. By the 15:12 mark, Brandywine had extended their 19-point halftime lead to 26, then to 31 points at the 9:19 mark.
From this point on, Abington closed out the game on a 22-10 run, but the damage had already been done. By the time all was said and done, Brandywine coasted to a 90-71 victory over Penn State Abington, ending their two-game winning streak. Brandywine seemed to dominate in all aspects of the game, but they really made their money on points in the paint and points off turnovers. Abington turned the ball over 19 times, resulting in 20 points for Brandywine. Add in a 38-26 points in the paint advantage and it makes for a tough amount to overcome.
Max Alton led all scorers with 20 points and 2 assists. Sophomore
Mike Marvin got yet another double-double, with 11 points and 10 rebounds on the night. Marvin also had perhaps the most memorable play of the evening for Abington, a thunderous block made while chasing down a Brandywine player on a fast break attempt. Freshman Alex Ageydu had 13 points off the bench for Abington, while junior
Mike Colacci added another 13 points in his first minutes back on the floor since being sidelined with injury in November.
Juniors Rasheed Wilkins and Dan Robinson led Brandywine with 15 and 13 points scored, respectively. Robinson was also a monster on the offensive glass, grabbing a game high 7 offensive rebounds. Freshman Pat McGee had 12 points off the bench for Brandywine.
Penn State Abington has an opportunity to get right back into the win column as they have a quick turnaround to face Arcadia at home on Saturday. Game time is set for 3:00 pm, with the women's game beforehand at 1:00 pm. Be sure to stay tuned in to
