Penn State Abington women's tennis had an individual championship winner by
Adela Ulitsky on Friday afternoon at the Birchwood Tennis Center.
Ulitsky was named to First Team All-Conference after defeating Nikita Wilkins from Keuka College 6-2, 6-3 before overcoming an early deficit to win the championship match 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 over Jaclyn Gyger from Penn State Harrisburg in the #6 Singles spot.
Jenny Abraham and
Lori Phillips earned Third Team All-Conference.
Phillips struggled during the #4 Singles round, dropping the 6-2, 2-6, 13-11 decision to Brittany Vanno (Wells College), before rebounding for the win in the consolation match against Jordan Simpkins (Penn State Harrisburg) with a 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 10-5 victory.
Abraham suffered the same fate, losing the first round match, 6-3, 2-5, 10-7 to Caitlyn Copfer (Wells College) before bouncing back to defeat Kara DeWitt (Keuka College) with a 6-1, 6-4 decision.
During the doubles matches, Abraham and
Lauren Hetzel earned First team All-Conference in the #2 Doubles spot with a 8-5 decision over Copfer and Vanno (Wells College) before winning it all, edging Amanda Fuller and Elizabeth Kehm (Penn State Berks) with a 8-4 victory.
Stephanie Mockus and Ulitsky teamed up, winning the first decision 9-8 (1) in the tiebreaker before earning Second Team All-Conference honors with the 5-6 win over Wells College duos of Kate Ellis and Chika Taguchi.
Duos Phillps and
Kimberly Ochester also earned Second Team All-Conference honors for their performance in the #3 Doubles match, winning the opening round 9-8(1) in the tiebreaker as well, before losing in the championship round with a 8-2 decision to Kelly Pietruch and Marie Shimazaki from Wells College.
The Lady Lions wraps up the 2011-12 season with a 9-6 overall record and finished third in the NEAC Conference with a 4-2 record.
