ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Abington women's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2012-2013 season with a 9-0 sweep over Cairn University this afternoon.
Abington began play by taking all three double courts as duo
Jenny Abraham and
Alexandra Murianka nabbed No. 1 spot with a 8-5 score.
Lori Phillips and Olga Popili followed suit with a 9-8 decision after a 7-2 tiebreaker victory.
Naina Gimadeyeva and
Evgenia Nigay collected the final spot in doubles match on a 8-3 decision for Abington.
In singles play, the Lady Lions continued to roll as Abraham won 6-3, 6-4, while Hetzel was victorius by a 6-0, 6-1 score at No. 2 singles.
Phillips clinched No. 3 spot with a 6-2, 6-4 decision as Gimadeyeva defeated her opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Popili contributed a point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory as Nigay completed the sweep by defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Abington will return to action on Friday, September 14
th as it travels to Reading, Pa. to take on the Lions of Albright College at 3 p.m.
