ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team swept two doubles matches and rolled to a 6-3 victory over host Cedar Crest College on Tuesday afternoon.
After a pair of Abington victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, the No. 1 team of
Jenny Abraham and
Alexandra Murianka hoped to pull out the sweep, but fell short with a 9-7 decision. Nonetheless, the Lady Lions had the 2-1 advantage moving into singles.
Abington quickly secured the team victory as
Lauren Hetzel won her No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-0 over Cassandra Bejar. Abington then won the final three singles matches as
Naina Gimadeyeva won her No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-0 over Kyleen Sisson, and Olga Popili secured the victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles over Maria Vincent.
With an Abington victory already assured, the final three singles matches were up for grabs.
Evgenia Nigay secured Abington's final point by defeating her opponent, Nicole Mayer in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Lions wrap up their final match of the fall season next Friday, September 28
th with a 4 p.m. match at Arcadia University.
