ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team beat Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday by a score of 8-0. The win improves the Lady Lions' record to 4-7 on the year.
Abington had no difficulty against the Lions, winning all three doubles matches, losing just four games, before winning all five singles matches as well. The fifth singles match was declared unfinished after the rain spoiled the opportunity for a sweep.
The Lady Lions dominated the match, losing just seven points during the entire singles competition. Senior captain
Jenny Abraham won at No. 1 by a score of 6-1, 6-3, with
Lori Phillips following suit with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2.
Olya Popili took No. 3 in straight sets (6-0, 6-1), while
Alexandra Murianka picked up her third consecutive win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory today. Shenna Philip notched her fourth straight victory at No. 6.
Abraham and Evengia Nigay paired up to win 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Popili and Philips took the No. 2 doubles match and the tandem of Murianka and
Christiana Pereira winning at third doubles.
The Lady Lions will rest for a week before returning to action on Thursday, April 4th as it hosts the Eagles of Eastern University at 3 p.m.
