Langhorne, PA – The Penn State Abington Women's Tennis Team's won their first match of the fall season beating the Cairn University's Highlanders on their home courts, 6 – 3.

After quickly losing in the 3^rd (Janie Saile and Y Nhi Nguyen) doubles, 0 – 8, both the 1^st (Olya Popili and Carly Powell) and 2^nd (Sheena Philip and Honora Hegarty) doubles took control of their matches at and won 8 – 3 respectively, to give the Lady Lions a 2-1 lead.

The winning ways continued in the singles. The 3^rd singles had Powell, winning 6-0, 6-0, followed by Philip winning the 5^th singles, 6-0, 6-2 to secure the third and fourth points on the day.

After winning the first set easily 6-1, Hegarty, held on in the second set to win, 6-4 in the 1^st singles and secured the fifth point and match for the Nittany Lions. This was Hegarty's first singles win for Abington after being away from the sport for a couple years after graduating high school.

The sixth and final point came from the 2^nd singles, with Olya Popili coming back after dropping the first set 2-6, rebounding in the second 6-3, and then coming back again after falling behind 3-5 and ultimately won 7-5 in the third set.

Abington improves to 1 – 1 on the season and will face the Knights of Arcadia University on Saturday, September 14^th at 1 p.m.
