NORFOLK, Va.- The Penn State Abington women's tennis team opened its annual spring break action on the road Saturday, March 8, but ran into a formidable opponent as Virginia Wesleyan jumped ahead  for the 7-2 win over the Nittany Lions in non-conference action.
The closest matches came at third doubles and sixth singles. At third doubles, 
Olya Popili and Christina Pereira paired up for the 8-3 victory. Sixth singles was all about Pereira as she swept her opponent, Sydney Charity in two sets by a score of 6-1, 3-0 before Charity retired to end the match as Pereira earned her second career singles victory.
With the loss, the Nittany Lions fell 1-3 overall this campaign while Virginia Wesleyan moved to 1-5 overall, with the triumph.
Abington will next travel to Maryland to face St. Mary's College of Maryland on Thursday, March 13 starting at 5 p.m.
