READING, Pa. – Not only did the Penn State Abington women's tennis pick up its first conference win of the season, but the Nittany Lions also got its first-ever program win against Penn State Berks, winning 6-3 against the North Eastern Athletic Conference foe on Saturday afternoon. The win improves Abington to an even .500 (5-5) on the year and 1-0 in conference play.
The Blue and White started strong, sweeping two of the three doubles matches.
Taylor Zisholtz and
Janie Saile won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles while
Olya Popili and Alexandra Murionka rallied to win 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Nittany Lions won four of the six matches to take the 6-3 win. At No 2 singles, Popili was down early but rallied to win 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-2. Zisholtz won a tight match at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1 as
Sheena Philip rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Christina Pereira needed a third set to win a very close match at No. 6 singles, getting a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 victory.
Abington returns to action against the College of St. Elizabeth on Tuesday, April 8. The first match is set for 3:30 p.m.
