DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team came back from being down 2-1 after doubles play to win the next four points for the 6-3 victory over host Delaware Valley College Saturday afternoon.
After a pair of Del Val victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles, Abington took the third doubles by default on the Aggies' forfeit to go 2-1 after doubles play.
The Nittany Lions turned its focus onto singles play as sophomore
Honora Hegarty (Abington, Pa.) picked up Abington's first point of the match with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at flight one before Del Val won No. 2 singles for its third and final point of the day.
The Blue and White would go on to win the two flights with
Sheena Philip getting the 6-0, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles before
Gabrielle Eberhardt (Cherry Hill, N.J.) needed three sets to pick up her second career win with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 decision.
With the score 4-3, Del Val would forfeit the final two singles flight as Abington picks up its second straight win of the season.
The Nittany Lions will return to action next Wednesday as they host Cairn University for the 3:00 p.m. match.
