Women's Tennis Nick Economopoulos

Women's Tennis Falls to Virginia Wesleyan, 6-3

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Penn State Abington women's tennis team opened its season down in Virginia against Virginia Wesleyan College, but the Nittany Lions fell to the Marlins 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

In doubles action the Nittany Lions started strong as they gained a point with a win from the pairing of Sally Phung (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Honestee Sphabmixay (Philadelphia, Pa.). They gained the first point of the game with a dominate 8-1 win. The Marlins would go on to take the next two flights going into singles action.

In the singles matches, the Nittany Lions took the lead back with two straight singles wins from Phung and Madison Kimball (Jenkintown, Pa.). Phung was able to win her match 6-3 and 6-2, while Kimball won her match 6-1 and 6-4. Virginia Wesleyan would go on to win the next four matches to earn the victory for the Marlins.

Abington will go on to face Randolph-Macon College on March 11, at 1:00 p.m.
