CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – In a tight championship match, the Penn State Abington women's tennis team fell to Penn State Berks 5-4, on Thursday morning.
Abington finishes the season with a 13-4 record overall and 8-1 in the NEAC.
In doubles, Abington pulled a point with an 8-4 victory for
Honora Hegarty and
Sheena Philip, but Berks held a 2-1 lead going into singles action.
Hegarty tied the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kianna Anderson and
Amanda Shulski pulled Abington ahead with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Berks tied the match at 3-3, but
Gabrielle Eberhardt put Abington back on top after she rallied past a slow first set to win 2-6, 6-0, 6-0 over Tanya White. Berks tied the match again to make the sixth flight the decider.
Madison Kimball fell in the first set but battled to take the second 6-1. Erin Ginther of Berks edged out Kimball in the third set to seal the NEAC West Title.
