READING, Pa. – Four years running the Penn State Abington women's tennis team has captured the NEAC West regular season title after a perfect 9-0 win over Penn State Berks on Wednesday afternoon. The 9-0 win was the largest margin of victory ever against Penn State Berks. Abington improves to 7-5 for the season and remain undefeated in the conference at 6-0.
Abington opened the match with three points in a doubles sweep with a 8-2 decision at the top flight, an 8-6 win at the number two doubles and an 8-1 victory in the third match.
In singles action, two huge come from behind wins from
Sally Phung 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 and
Janie Saile 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 helped to secure the shut out. Over the past four seasons Saile has been a part of each of the regular season championships.
The Nittany Lions will be the top ranked team at the NEAC West Conference tournament at Clark Summit, Pa. and will face the winner of Penn State Berks and Lancaster Bible.
