CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – After winning the regular season title the Penn State Abington women's tennis program won its first NEAC West Tournament with a 5-2 win over Penn State Berks in the championship match.Â
Abington started off strong with two wins in doubles action with an 8-4 win at the top flight for
Honora Hegarty and
Madison Kimball.Â
Sally Phung and
Sam Amaro earned a tough 8-6 win at the third doubles match to give Abington the 2-1 advantage.
In singles, Hegarty earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at the top flight and Kimball won the third flight with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The fifth point was won by Phung at the fourth flight in a tough 6-3, 6-3 win over Berks.
After four years of being runners up the women will move on to the NEAC/NAC crossover championship for the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.
