Women's Tennis Advances to Championship with Win Over LBC

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA – In the NEAC/NAC West semifinal match, the Penn State Abington women's tennis team earned a gritty 5-3 win over Lancaster Bible on Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions picked up two points in doubles action Michelle Mirjani (Great Neck, NY) and Marta Tymchenko topped Lancaster Bibles Greta Strunk and Michaela Dearborn in a close 9-8 (7-5) win. In the second doubles match Stephanie Jin (Bluebell, Pa) and Fatoumata Cisse (Philadelphia, Pa.) cruised to an 8-2 decision over the Chargers. In the third doubles match of the night, the Nittany Lions fell in a close 9-8 (9-7) heartbreaker.

In singles action the Chargers earned a point with a slim win in the top flight.  In the second and third singles mach, the Nittany Lions earned another two points from Tymchenko and Cisse. Isabella Blackwell (Philadelphia, PA) picked up a crucial point in the sixth match to help the Nittany Lions clinch the win.

Abington will face off against the top seed Penn State Berks tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
