Women's Tennis 2019 NEAC Champions

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA- The Penn State Abington women's tennis team are champions of the North Eastern Athletic Conference after an intense 5-3 win over Lancaster Bible Saturday morning. For the first time ever in program history, Abington will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead after earning their first win of the day at No.1 doubles. Sophomore pair Michelle Mirjani (Great Neck, NY) and Marta Tymchenko (Trevose, PA) picked up a 8-3 victory over their opponents. Isabella Blackwell (Philadelphia, PA) and Stephanie Jin (Bluebell, PA) remain undefeated in doubles play and improve their NEAC record to 5-0 at No. 2 doubles after their tight 8-6 win.

Abington took three of the five singles competitions with wins at No. 2, No.3, and No. 5 singles. At No. 2 singles, Michelle Mirjani defeated her opponent in a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Marta Tymchenko took home a win at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 7-6 triumph. Michelle Ly (Shirley, NY) battled at No. 6 singles in a tight (4-6), 6-4, 7-5 win for Abington.

The Nittany Lions will continue in the NEAC individual tournament, with doubles flights being held tonight and singles flights will be played tomorrow morning.
