Men's Basketball Preview

ABINGTON, PA. – The men's basketball program will finally be back in action after a hiatus when they travel to Arcadia tomorrow to kick off the 2021-2022 season.  Entering his 6th season Head Coach Jon Tanous is looking to guide the Nittany Lions back into the conference tournament with strong core of returners and new faces around the program.

Players to Watch

Senior guard Alex Salata III will be back in action looking for a full time role on the court. The senior appeared in 21 games and averaged 5.6 points per game earning 26 assists and 12 steals for the Nittany Lions.

Another senior guard Mohamed Mansaray will bring experience to the floor after he played in 20 games and starting 11 of them.  Mansaray averaged 5.3 points per game with 16 assists and 13 steals in the 2019-2020 season.

Junior Brian Randolph III will be on the court this season looking to lead the Nittany Lions for the 2021-2022 campaign. Randolph netted 4.9 points per game and earned four boards per game as well. His 28 steals were good enough for second on the team.

In the upper-class junior Alex Podolski will be back as a guard for the Nittany Lions this season. The junior scored 4 points per game and earned 2.9 boards with 13 assists and 11 steals to aid the Nittany Lions.

New Faces

The freshman for the Nittany Lions will have big shoes to fill after losing NEAC Rookie of the Year John Ryan, and seniors Amir Hill and Bobby Olsen. Abington will feature seven feshman this year to build out the roster.

Coach's Season Outlook:

"We are excited to compete on the court this year after a year removed. We have a split team with seven veterans and eight newcomers. We will be looking for our upperclassmen to lead our younger group. Our goal is to work hard as we seek daily improvement. With the right habits on and off the court this group will be competitive. Again, we are grateful to be playing the game we love after the long hiatus."
