Women’s Tennis to Face #1 St. Mary’s in United East Semifinals

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team earned the fourth seed in the United East Conference (UEC) Tournament and will face top-seeded St. Mary's College in the semifinals on Friday starting at 6 p.m.  This year's United East Tournament will be held at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pa. The winner will face the winner of the Lancaster Bible College/Penn State Harrisburg semifinal in the championship match on Saturday (10 a.m.).
 
About Penn State Abington (2-8, 1-4 UEC)
The Nittany Lions are appearing in the United East Tournament (formerly the NEAC) for the 10th time and has qualified for the postseason every year since joining Division III in 2011-12 except for the 2019-20 season when the tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
 
Doubles Duo
The first doubles team of senior Michelle Ly and sophomore Emina Mulaosmanovic have been on a roll the last few matches.  Since teaming up at the end of March, Ly and Mulaosmanovic are 3-3 at the first doubles position, including 2-3 in conference play.
 
Singles Action
At second flight singles, sophomore Tinatin Sadzaglishvili holds a 2-3 mark against conference opponents this season.  Against Penn College a few weeks ago, Sadzaglishvili came away with a shutout victory winning her match 6-0, 6-0.
 
About St. Mary's (8-7, 5-0 UEC)
The Seahawks feature this year's United East Player and Rookie of the Year, Diana Levit.  Levit went a perfect 5-0 in United East play at first singles and was also perfect at first doubles with partner and second team all-conference selection, Hannah Gorel. 
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions are 6-9 all-time in the United East/NEAC Tournament, including an appearance in the 2018-19 championship match.  Abington defeated Lancaster Bible College, 5-3, to earn the program's first conference title that year and its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
 
All-Time Series vs. St. Mary's
Abington and St. Mary's have met once prior and that was less than a week ago in the final United East match of the season.  The Seahawks defeated the Nittany Lions, 9-0, in St. Mary's City, Md.
 
Next Up
Abington will host Rosemont College on Thursday afternoon prior to Friday's United East semifinal match.  Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Abington Tennis Courts.
