Abington, Pa. –
Penn State Abington senior Ryan McCarty was named the D3Baseball.com Region 4 Player of the Year as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning with the release of the All-Region teams.  In addition, freshman Chase Swain was selected the D3Baseball.com Region 4 Rookie of the Year.  Both McCarty and Swain were named to the All-Region 4 first team. Abington also had three other student-athletes earn All-Region 4 honors with senior Zach Morales and sophomores Justin Fogel and Tim Petrucelli being named to the third team.

The postseason honors continue to roll in for McCarty as he is now a three-time D3Baseball.com All-Region selection after previously earning recognition in 2018 (1st team) and 2021 (3rd team).  McCarty, the United East Conference (UEC) Player of the Year, is the first player in the program's Division III era to receive Region Player of the Year accolades.  He recently was named a semifinalist for USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award.

McCarty finished the 2022 campaign in historic fashion.  He currently leads Division III in batting (.529), hits (100), runs (89), RBI (91), total bases (220) and slugging percentage (1.164).  He's ranked second nationally with 27 doubles.  McCarty set the Division III single season record with 220 total bases and his 89 runs tied the single season mark.  In addition, McCarty is just the second Division III player to record 100-plus hits in a single season.

In the team's final regular season game, McCarty tied the Division III record for most home runs in a game as he launched four homers in game two of a doubleheader versus Gallaudet University.  In that game against the Bison, McCarty went 6-for-7 at the plate with four runs and a career-high nine RBI.

On the mound, McCarty appeared in 13 games during the season and sported a 4-2 record with four saves.  In 26.1 innings of work, McCarty struck out 21 batters.

Swain, the United East Rookie of the Year and an All-UEC first team selection, is the second player in program history to be named the D3Baseball.com Region Rookie of the Year.  McCarty is the other earning the honor in 2018.

Swain is coming off an impressive rookie season in which he batted .407; sixth-best in the United East.  He collected the second-most hits in the conference with 81, including 17 doubles and nine home runs.  His 81 hits are currently ranked 10th in Division III this season.  Swain also ranks fourth in the nation in runs with 76.

During the course of the season Swain recorded 45 RBI, including a career-high six in the team's win over Muhlenberg College back in mid-April.  He finished that game 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs and a home run.  Swain's first two collegiate home runs came in the win over nationally ranked Salisbury University.

Fogel is earning All-Region honors for the first time in his career.  The former United East Rookie of the Year started 20 games after returning from injury in April.  In those 20 games, Fogel set career-highs in batting average (.484), hits (44), doubles (10), triples (1), home runs (7) and runs scored (40).

Fogel tied his career-high with four hits in a game at Wells College with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate.  He followed that up a week later in the regular season finale against Gallaudet University where his recorded his first career multi home run game with two.  Fogel finished the season on a 20-game hitting streak and had multiple hits in 16-of-20 games played.

His 65 RBI are currently 10th best in Division III.

Morales drove in at least one run in 12 of his final 13 games played, including a stretch of 11 straight games with an RBI.

Petrucelli is earning All-Region honors in his first season with the team.  He was named to the All-UEC first team earlier this month.  This season, Petrucelli batted .327 with 50 hits, including 11 doubles, two triples and eight home runs.  He has scored 63 runs this season and recorded 45 RBI.  He's also finished the year with 53 walks which ranks second-most in Division III.

Defensively, Petrucelli had a stellar season in right field for the Nittany Lions.  He committed only three errors during the year with a .972 fielding percentage.  He also recorded seven outfield assists.

Petrucelli recorded a 20-game streak in which he scored at least one run from April 2 through May 10.  During that stretch he scored 37 times.  Petrucelli had his first career multi-home run game in the opening game of the United East Tournament versus Lancaster Bible.  He finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs and a career-high five RBI.
