Softball Honored for Academic Success by NFCA

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington softball team was recognized for its academic success during the 2021-22 academic year as the Nittany Lions received the Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Team Academic Award announced by the organization earlier this week. Abington was one of 115 Division III programs to receive the award.

In order for a team to earn All-Academic status, the program must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the course of the academic year. Abington finished this past year with a 3.18 team GPA and was the only program from the United East Conference (UEC) to earn the Team Academic Award from the NFCA.

In addition, six members of the Abington softball squad were tabbed Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes. Maddie Duffy, Hailey Gamble, Jenna Gorman, Linda Jackson, Grace Renninger and Megan Tomoney all maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2021-22 season.

Abington finished the 2022 season with a 24-15 record. The 24 victories marked the most in the program's Division III era. The Nittany Lions also qualified for the United East Tournament (formerly the NEAC) for the ninth straight season with the exception of the 2020 season when the tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
