Abington Defeats Wildcats for First United East Win

Box Score South Williamsport, Pa. – The Penn State Abington women's tennis team picked up its first United East Conference (UEC) victory of the season after coming away with a 7-2 triumph at Penn College on Friday afternoon at the West Branch Tennis Center.

How It Happened
 
* Abington was up 3-0 in the match after taking all three doubles competitions.  At first doubles, juniors Tinatin Sadzaglishvili and Elizabeth Turner defeated Ellen Buckley and Lauren Peck by the score of 8-4.  Sadzaglishvili and Turner won five of the last seven games in the match.
 
 
 * At second doubles the team of junior Elisa Steinhardt and Soniyah Youngblood defeated Arica Jones and Kassidi Lenhart, 8-6, while junior Kelsey Patterson and sophomore Isabella DePorre won their match against Cassie Johnson and Kayla Scampone by the score of 8-2.  Abington never trailed in either match.
 
* Sadzaglishvili won her sixth straight match at first singles after defeating Buckley in straight sets by identical 6-1 scores.  Sadzaglishvili is 8-2 overall in singles play this season.
 
* At fourth singles, Youngblood earned the point after rallying from being down 5-4 in the first set to Lenhart.  She won the next three games to take the opening set, 7-5.  Youngblood followed with a 6-4 victory in the second set to take the match.
 
* Sophomore Isabella DePorre won her fifth singles match over Cici Miller in straight sets by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
 
* Patterson recorded her first shutout victory of her career with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory against Jones at sixth singles
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the eighth meeting between Abington and Penn College since the start of the 2014-15 season.  The Nittany Lions are now 7-1 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Abington will continue with conference play on Tuesday, April 11 when the Nittany Lions host Penn State Berks.  Match time is set for 1 p.m. at the Abington Tennis Courts on campus.
