Golf Opens Fall Season with a Pair of Tournaments

Abington, Pa. –The Penn State Abington men's golf team opened the fall portion of the 2024-25 season earlier this week competing in two separate events.  On Monday, the Nittany Lions competed at the Albright College Fall Invitational and then took part in the Elizabethtown College Invitational on Tuesday.

"We got the season underway and everyone on the roster has a tournament under their belt," said head coach Chris Crail. "We've shown some signs of what we can do, everyone has some work to do so that we can improve. We're going to work hard and get ready for the next tournament in a few weeks."
 
Tournament Notes (Albright Fall Invitational)
 
* Senior Jack Lenox shot a team-low score of 79 to finish tied for 16th overall among 80 participants from 16 different teams. Lenox hit par on 10 of the 18 holes, including seven on the back nine.
 
* Freshman Justin Martin finished tied for 27th in his first collegiate tournament.  Martin carded an 80 after parring 12 of the 18 holes.  He connected on par on seven of the back nine holes.
 
*Sophomore Matt Duggan finished the day with a 92.  Duggan parred eight holes and registered an eagle on the par-5 16th hole.
 
* Other finishers include sophomore Matthew Kilner (97) and senior Tyler Burton (104).
 
Tournament Notes (Elizabethtown Invitational)
 
*Lenox was the team's lowest scorer at the Elizabethtown Invitational as he finished with an 81 (t-23rd).
 
* Freshman Joaquin Canalese finished tied for 26th with a score of an 83 in his first collegiate tournament. Canalese also had a pair of birdies on the day.
 
* Junior Bern Popky and freshman Justin Martin finished back-to-back in the standings.  Popky carded an 89, while Martin finished with a 90.
 
* Junior Nathan Sauder finished with a 94.
 
* Senior Ava Miller competed as an individual and carded a 105 for a new career personal-best round.
 
Next Up
Abington will return to action on Thursday, Oct. 3 as the Nittany Lions face Marywood University at Stone Hedge Golf Course.
