Atkins Named United East Defensive Player of the Week

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington junior Brynn Atkins was named the United East Conference (UEC) Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 2 as announced by the conference office earlier in the week.  This marks Atkins' first-ever weekly award.

Abington wrapped up the regular season last week with a 1-1 record, including an impressive 3-0 triumph against Wilson College in the season finale.

Atkins finished the week with 11 total blocks and in the process became the program's all-time leader in solo blocks.  In the non-conference match against Kean University, Atkins totaled two solo blocks and one block assist.

She capped the week tying her career-high with an eight-block performance against Wilson that included six solo blocks and two block assists. With her six blocks, Atkins set the record for most career solo blocks with 68 surpassing Andia Anderson who totaled 64 solo blocks from 2015-2018.

Atkins added to her career totals on Wednesday night against Penn College in the United East first round matchup.  She finished with three total blocks (2BS/1BA), including her 100th career block assist. Atkins, the program's all-time leader in all three blocking categories, has 170 career total blocks.

Abington (15-9, 6-4 UEC) returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 7 as the Nittany Lions travel to face St. Mary's College (Md.) in the United East quarterfinals. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
