Three Earn All-United East Honors

Latham, N.Y. – The Penn State Abington women's basketball team had three players earn All-United East Conference (UEC) honors with the conference's announcement of the 2024-25 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams and major award winners on Tuesday.  Sophomore Amirah Hackney was named to the All-United East first team, while junior Nia Newman and sophomore Amina Reid were selected to the All-United East second team.
 
Hackney is earning All-United East honors for the second straight season.  She received second team honors last year in her rookie season.  In her second season with the Nittany Lions, Hackney averaged 13.6 points and a career-high 7.4 rebounds per game.  She also set career-highs in blocks (28) and steals (66).  Hackney is ranked 13th in the conference in scoring and 19th in rebounding.  She is also ranked in the top-10 in blocks and steals.
 
Hackney totaled a career-high seven double-doubles this year, increasing her career total to 12.  She also tied her career-high in points scored with a 28-point performance at Gallaudet University back in January.
 
In 52 career games, Hackney is averaging 14.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.  She'll enter her junior season with 773 career points and 375 career rebounds.
 
Reid is earning All-United East honors for the first time.  It was a career-year for Reid not only offensively but also defensively.  She averaged a career-high 14.5 points per game to go along with a career-best 5.4 assists per game.  Reid also totaled a career-high 91 steals, which set a new single season program record.
 
Reid highlighted the season with a career day against Washington College where she totaled 33 points and eight steals.  She later would record her first career double-double against Penn State Brandywine with 12 points and 11 assists. She finished the season with four double-doubles and dished out 10-plus assists on four occasions.
 
Reid ranks tops in the conference with 141 assists and is second with her 91 steals.
 
In 54 career games, Reid has averaged 12.0 points and 4.3 assists per game.  She has also totaled 175 steals, 235 assists and 376 points. 
 
Newman is earning All-United East honors in her first year with the Nittany Lions.  Newman appeared in 25 games and made 18 starts as she averaged 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.  She ranks sixth amongst the conference leaders with 139 rebounds and is one of just four players that averaged double-figures in rebounding for the year.
 
In her very first game with the Nittany Lions, Newman recorded a double-double with 17 points a career-high 22 rebounds.  She went on to record eight double-doubles during the course of the season.
 
Abington finished the season with an 18-8 overall record marking the most wins in a season since the program won 22 in 2014-15.  The 18 victories are also the third most in a single season in program history.  The Nittany Lions qualified for the postseason for the seventh time in their Division III era and second straight appearance.  Abington, seeded second, advanced all the way to the United East semifinals and hosted two postseason games for the first time.
