Monaco Named United East Defensive Player of the Week

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington sophomore Frank Monaco was named the United East Conference (UEC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 14 as announced by the conference office earlier in the week.  Monaco is earning weekly honors for the first time in his career.

Abington finished last week with a pair of ties against two non-conference opponents.  The Nittany Lions finished in a scoreless draw with regional foe Haverford College. It marked just the second time this season that the unblemished Fords (3-0-3) were held scoreless.

The team capped the week with a 1-1 tie against visiting Shenandoah University by the score of 1-1. Monaco connected on his first collegiate goal against the Hornets to give the Nittany Lions the lead at the time in the 55th minute.  Monaco and the Abington defense held Shenandoah to just four shots in the game.

Abington (0-4-3, 0-0-0 UEC) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 as the Nittany Lions head to Virginia for a non-conference contest at Roanoke College.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
