Kelly Named United East Offensive Player of the Week

Latham, N.Y. – Penn State Abington senior JoJo Kelly was named the United East Conference (UEC) Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8 as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.  Kelly is earning weekly honors for the first time.

It turned out to be a historic Senior Day for Kelly who was competing in his final home regular season contest at the Abington Athletic Building this past Saturday against Gallaudet University.  He scored a program record 47 points as the Nittany Lions defeated the Bison by the score of 102-78.

Kelly's 47-point performance set a new single game record breaking a 10-year mark by former standout Dequan Jackson who scored 40 points at Wells College on Jan. 17, 2016.  Kelly also broke Jackson's single game record for most field goals in a game after shooting 17-of-31 from the field.  Jackson drained 16 field goals during his 40-point outburst. In addition, Kelly's 47 points are the most scored by any player in the United East this year and is the seventh most scored points in all of Division III this season.

Against the Bison, Kelly also totaled six rebounds, four assists and four steals.  He finished a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

In 22 games, Kelly is averaging 19.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.  His 119 made free throws thus far are third most in a single season in the program's record book.

Abington (4-19, 4-7 UEC) returns to action Tuesday night as the Nittany Lions travel to face Keystone College in a United East matchup.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
