Hackney Named D3hoops.com All-Region

Abington, Pa. – After being named All-United East Conference (UEC) for the third straight season a few weeks ago, junior Amirah Hackney can now add All-Region honoree to her already impressive Penn State Abington resume.  Hackney was named to the D3hoops.com All-Region 4 second team as announced by the organization earlier this week.  She is just the third player to earn all-region honors in program history joining former standouts Shayna Rodriguez (2018-19) and Angela Sanders (2023-24) to receive that distinction.  Both Rodriguez and Sanders were third team selections.

"Being named to the All-Region second team is a tremendous honor and we're very proud of Amirah," said head coach Tiara White. "She had a strong season and played an important role in our team's success.  Her effort, consistency and competitive mindset were evident all year long.  Awards like this recognize individual achievement, but they're also a reflection of the team around her and the work she has put in day after day.  It's great to see her efforts and skill recognized at the regional level.  Amirah is the type of player every coach loves to have."

Hackney recently was named to the All-United East first team for the second straight time after another stellar season in her third year in an Abington uniform.  She averaged a career-high 17.6 points per game which led the United East conference.  Hackney's 475 points scored this season is the fourth most ever scored in a single season in the program's Division III era.  In the process, Hackney also surpassed the 1,000-career points milestone and pushed her way to fourth place in the all-time scoring list with 1,248 career points.

Hackney scored 20-plus points 10 times during the season, including a career-high 34 points against the University of Valley Forge back in January when she reached the 1,000-point milestone.  She entered that game needing just 22 points and scored exactly that within the first 8:16 of the game. Hackney will enter her senior season with career numbers of 1,248 points, 532 rebounds, 183 steals and 59 blocks.

This season, Abington (20-7, 11-2 UEC) advanced to the United East championship game for the third time after earning the third seed in this year's tournament.  The Nittany Lions finished with 20 wins for just the second time in the program's Division III era.  It marked the most victories in a single season since the 2014-15 team won 22 games.  Abington also won 11 straight games leading into the United East championship game setting a new D-III era program record.
