Women’s Soccer Earns Convincing 3-1 Win over Keuka College

Box Score FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington Nittany Lions women's soccer team squared off against the Storm of Keuka College on Sunday afternoon. The Nittany Lions were coming off a big 2-0 win against Wells College the day before and Keuka College was coming into Sunday trying to rebound from a 5-0 loss from Penn State-Berks.

Each team came out strong from the get go, battling with each other's blows and going back and forth but neither team could find the back of the net.  In the 10th minute of the half, Keuka struck early to make it 1-0 with a goal from Jessica Bandrowski.  Bandrowski received a through pass by Jordan Fredell, where she slipped past the last two Abington defenders and snuck the ball right by Abington's goalkeeper, Alyssa Kaye, for the Storm's first and only goal of the game.

After the Blue and White squad gave up the early goal, they responded in the 19th minute as junior midfielder Mallory Mugnier intercepted a cross from Keuka, dribbled a few feet down the field before chipping the ball right over the Storms' keeper's head for the equalizer. Abington finally got its first lead of the game during the 37th minute when Ashlee Kohn was fouled at the top of Keuka's box, earning the call for a penalty kick. Mugnier took the shot and finished the PK to the bottom right of the goal for her second goal of the game and her 13th of the season.

Less than a minute later, Mugnier continued to make an impact on the field once again, this time by making a swift pass through the Keuka's defensive line to find Cindy Wade open, who then drilled the ball to the top of the net to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Nittany Lions at the half.

In the second half the Nittany Lions kept the ball on the Keuka end of the field for the rest of the game, maintaining possession of the ball and limiting the Storm to just three shots in the second half.  The same could be said about Keuka's defense as Abington was limited to just seven shots throughout the second half. Neither teams were able to find the net as Abington held on for the 3-1 decision and collected their seventh straight victory.

Kaye came up with seven saves on the day for the Blue and White while Ashley Swarts converted six saves on the day for the Storm.

With the win, Abington is now 9-1 in conference play to hold the second seed spot and improved to 12-2 on the year with a seven game winning streak in the books. Keuka dropped to 7-4-1 on the year and 6-3 in the NEAC.

Penn State Abington will return to action on Wednesday as it hosts Cabrini College in a non-conference matchup at Father Judge High School for a 7 p.m. contest.
