Abington Women's Soccer Battles Cabrini to 1-1 Tie

Box Score
PHILADELPHIA – Even when the Cavaliers offense peppering 34 shots on the night, the Penn State Abington women's soccer team battled to a double-overtime 1-1 draw against Cabrini College in a non-conference matchup Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions (12-2-1) extended their home unbeaten streak to five games as they haven't dropped a contest since September 21st.
Abington finished the night with a season-low 9 shots, including four on the frame. Junior Mallory Mungier registered her 14th goal of the year and had team-high three attempts.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Kaye recorded her season best with 16 saves on the night, keeping the Nittany Lions in contention.
Both teams got off to a bit of a slow start but Cabrini began to find its rhythm midway through the first half with four shots and a pair of corner kicks in the remainder of the stanza. Mungier had the Nittany Lions' best look at the 43 minute mark when she beat her defender to the ball near the endline before cutting back inside for a point-blank shot that was stopped by Cabrini goalkeeper Brianna McGrory. Cabrini ended up owning a 12-3 advantage in attempts at the break.

In the second period, the Cavaliers (8-3-5, 6-1-2 CSAC) would dent the scoreboard first when Nicole Hallinan picked off the ball off of an Abington defender and flicked it towards Melissa Scanzano, who then took a shot from 15 yards out, as Kaye dove to make an attempt to push the ball away only to watch it sail passed her and land into the bottom right side of the net at the 71:18 mark. Cabrini's lead was short-lived, however, as Abington came storming back to tie it up 24 seconds later.

Midfielder Cindy Wade started it off with a cross in the air towards Mungier, which was interrupted by McGory midway in the air, only to have the ball land in front of Mungier for the tap-in into the left side of the netting. The Cavaliers outshot Abington the rest of the way with six but couldn't get another one on the board before the end of regulation thanks to the Nittany Lions' defensive line.

The Cavaliers started to turn up the pressure in the first overtime, setting off six shots, but Abington's defense continued to clear out the ball every time. Although Cabrini continued to control possession along with five shots in the second OT, the Cavaliers were unable to break through the defensive line of Abington before time ran out.

Cabrini totaled 34 shots and was paced by Devon Miller, who had eight shots with five on goal, while McGory finished with three saves in between the pipes.

Abington will wrap the regular season at home on Saturday as it hosts the College of St. Elizabeth in a NEAC conference matchup at Germantown Academy. It will also be the day of recognition for women's soccer's lone senior goalkeeper, Alyssa Kaye who will play her final regular season of her collegiate career.
