Women’s Basketball Roars Past Cairn for First Win, 54-38

Box Score LANGHORNE MANOR, Pa. – Jessica Schmidt went 7-for-10, scoring 14 of her game-high 19 points in the first half to help Penn State Abington open up a 16-point halftime lead in an eventual 54-38 victory over Cairn University this afternoon.

The Lady Lions get first-year head coach Stephanie Agger her first career win and add a 'W' to their 1-2 record while the Highlanders drop to 0-2 on the year.

Things remained tight early into the first half until the Lady Lions were able to pull away before halftime and take a 26-12 lead into the break. Cairn came out of the break looking to catch up but could not do so as the Nittany Lions pulled away for the 54-38 victory.

Schmidt finished the game with 19 points and three assists, while Janay Winston and Kayla Nolan scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Winston also came up with 11 rebounds while senior guard Alyssa Kaye pulled in 16 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

Abington will return to action next week as the Nittany Lions will open their first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of the season, traveling to Lancaster Bible College for a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday, November 26.
