Box Score ABINGTON Pa. - The outcome for the Penn State Abington women's basketball squad in today's game hoped to be a first North Eastern Athletic Conference victory, but alas the Blue and White lost in double digits against Wells College, 60-47, marking it the fourth straight conference loss on the year.
The game was tightly contest in the early stages of the first half with Wells College in command. Abington had a short rally at the start but could never regain the lead as the Express tied it up with 18 points apiece at the 4:55 mark of the first half. Wells kept pushing ahead in the final minutes, however Abington was able to cut the deficit to eight to trail 28-20 at the half.
The second half was all about the Express they began to slowly pull away with help from Lindsay Achzet and Kaitlynne Knapp dominating in the paint. Abington couldn't get anything going on the offensive end of the court, as the Nittany Lions scored only two times in the beginning of the first five minutes of the second half. Despite the multiple opportunities in the paint, Abington struggled to find the basket and couldn't take advantage of easy points and watched Wells College capitalize and come away with the 60-47 victory.
Abington was led by
Teharah Worrell 12 points along with three steals.
Jessica Schmidt and
Janay Winston posted double digits, scoring 10 points each for the Nittany Lions.
On the Express end,
Stephanie Keyes was a force on the defensive side as she came away with five steals and a monster block shot.
As a team Abington struggled from the field, converting 32.8 % of their shots. Wells College was able to take advantage of the turnovers committed by the Nittany Lions, scoring 22 points compared to Abington's 16. The Express dominated in almost every category including
second chance points, bench points and points in the paint.
The Nittany Lions hope to bounce back as they travel to Morristown, N.J. to take on College of Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday before returning on their home front to take Morrisville State College next Saturday.
