Box Score Abington, Pa. - Despite staying within striking distance the entire game, the Penn State Abington women's basketball squad (5-15, 3-11 NEAC) fell to Lancaster Bible (19-5, 15-0), 63-44 in the team's last home game on Tuesday night.
Before the game, the team honored its two seniors,
Janay Winston and
Alyssa Kaye. Winston capped off her Penn State Abington career with a 20-point performance, shooting 10-of-24 and grabbing six rebounds. Kaye scored two points and grabbed three boards in her final home game.
The Nittany Lions played well defensively in the first half and limited the Chargers to just 8-of-23 from the field. Penn State got into early foul trouble with 14 personal fouls. Lancaster Bible made 14-of-15 first half free throws and took a nine point lead into the half. The Chargers' Brooklyn Wilson scored 11 of her 17 points in the first half, going 3-for-5 from the 3-point line.
Winston took over for Abington in the second half, scoring 14 points to keep her team close down the stretch. With
Jessica Schmidt in foul trouble and
Stephanie Keyes struggling from the field, Winston picked up the scoring load and thrived as the team's main option. Schmidt played only 16 minutes and fouled out in the second half, while Keyes only scored eight points on 1-for-8 shooting.
Aubrey Folger scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Sarah Heilenman added 14 points, four assists and four rebounds for Lancaster Bible in the game.
Abington closes out its season with two final away games. The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday when they visit Cazenovia at 8 p.m. They close out their season on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Wilson.
