COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- The second day of back-to-back games can be the toughest for teams, and that proved to be the case on Saturday afternoon for the Penn State Abington women's soccer team. The Nittany Lions, coming off a dominating 4-0 victory over Immaculata on Friday night, struggled to get their offense going against the Ursinus College Bears losing 2-0.

Abington was outshot 36-2 by the Bears for the contest, and if it wasn't for  freshman goalkeeper Margaret Sheridan (Horsham, Pa.) the outcome could have been much worse.

Sheridan stopped 17 of the 19 shots that were thrown her way on net and gave the Nittany Lions a fighting chance despite being heavily outplayed for the game. With the 17 saves, she tied an Abington Women's Soccer record set by Gabrielle Benedict back on Sept. 22nd, 2011 against Lancaster Bible.

Tired legs from after last night's game combined with a quick paced Ursinus offense kept the ball in the Abington defensive half for much of the game. Abington fired one shot in the first half compared to 13 from the Bears. Nonetheless, the game was tied at zero through the first 45 minutes.

It wasn't until the 79th minute that either team broke the stalemate. Ursinus' Alexis Haug scored her first goal of the season from in the box giving the Bears a 1-0 lead.  A little over two minutes later in the 82nd minute, Ursinus would extend their lead courtesy of Jeannie Jasinski. Alexis Haug sent a ball into the box where Jasinski was there to head the ball past Sheridan for the 2-0 lead.

Jasinski finished the contest with a game high 12 shots and seven shots on goal.  Sophomore Kayla Nolan (Abington, Pa.) had the lone two shots for the Nittany Lions.

With the loss, Abington drops to 1-1 on the season. They will be back on the pitch next Saturday Sept. 6th when they square off against the Gallaudet University Bison in the NEAC conference opener. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Hatboro-Horsham High School in Horsham, Pa. Follow www.abingtonsports.com for all the soccer updates.
