ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team lost a hard-fought 5-4 match to Albright College on Tuesday afternoon. The loss puts the Nittany Lions at an even .500 record on the year while Albright picked up its first win of the year.
Abington (1-1) won broke the 1-1 tie at No. 2 doubles to hold a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play. Senior
Kevin Wilkinson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman
Michael Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded an 8-6 triumph at the No. 3 position.
Albright (1-1) won four of the six singles match for the 5-4 win for the Lions. Freshman
Justin McNab (Elkins Park, Pa.) fought a tough battle at the No.3 singles positon, losing the first set 6-4 before coming back strong with a 6-1 win to tie it up and later forcing a tiebreaker in the third set before falling short of the win with a 7-6 (7-2) decision.
Senior
James Howell (Abington, Mass.) won by a 6-1, 6-2 set scores on the No. 5 singles before junior
Monte Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed suit at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Abington returns to action on Wednesday, September 24 at 3:00 p.m. when it hosts Eastern University.
