Men’s Tennis to Take on #1 St. Mary’s in United East Tournament

Abington, Pa. – The Penn State Abington men's tennis team, seeded fourth in the United East Conference (UEC) Tournament, will face top-seeded St. Mary's College in the semifinals on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. This year's United East Tournament will be held at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pa.  The winner will face the winner of the Penn State Harrisburg/Lancaster Bible College semifinals in the championship match on Sunday (10 a.m.).
 
About Penn State Abington (5-6, 2-3 UEC)
The Nittany Lions are making their ninth straight appearance in the United East Tournament (formerly the NEAC) excluding the 2019-20 season when the tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Abington finished the regular season with a 5-6 mark, including a 2-3 record in conference play to earn the fourth seed.
 
Clicking on All Cylinders
Abington has been on a roll of late in singles play.  Freshman Andrew Brown finished conference matches with a 3-2 mark at second singles and wrapped up the regular season with a 6-3 overall record.  Senior Philip Belotserkovsky is 5-5 in his last 10 matches, mostly at third singles.  Freshman Kyle Elliott finished conference play with a 2-3 record between fourth and fifth singles.
 
Doubles Action
Abington will feature junior Adrian Condes and Brown at first doubles and the team of Belotserkovsky and Elliott, who are 1-1 as partners, at second doubles heading into Saturday's semifinal.
 
About St. Mary's (12-3, 5-0 UEC)
The Seahawks enter the United East Tournament as the top-seed and Regular Season Champions with a perfect 5-0 record in conference play this season.  St. Mary's features six all-conference selections, including four first team honorees in Sam Sheats (3rd Singles), William Shepherd Johnson (5th Singles) and Liam Pratt (6th Singles) as well as Sheats and Tyler VanValkenburg at second doubles.
 
Abington in the Postseason
The Nittany Lions are 7-8 all-time in the United East/NEAC Tournament.  Abington has won three NEAC Tournament titles after winning three straight championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016.  The Nittany Lions also appeared in the 2013 championship match.
